We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner / Coordinator to join a prolific builder’s merchant in the Tamworth area. Our client is well-known across the Midlands and North of England, and is serious about helping secure a fruitful, long-term career for the right individual.
This is a pivotal role, supporting the Operations Manager in their day-to-day duties. You will be responsible for overseeing the smooth and efficient running of our transport and logistics operations, scheduling all deliveries and managing the necessary documentation for deliveries and collections. As Transport Planner, you will be accountable for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, including vehicle and driver hour regulations, operator licence requirements, and health and safety standards.
The role also involves managing vehicle and crane inspections, fuel cards, defect reports, and accident management, while ensuring that all plant and machinery are kept in good repair. Furthermore, during periods of downtime, your role may extend onto the trade counter, where you will be greeting and assisting customers in the correct manner.
This role demands more than simply assigning Drivers to their runs You will represent the business in all that you do; in turn ensuring that deliveries always reach their intended destinations in the safest, most logical manner.
Hours: 6.30am-17:00pm Mon-Fri
Holiday: 30 days per annum (inclusive of Bank Holidays)
Salary Range: £34,000-£37,000 per annum (plus discretionary bonus scheme)
Requirements for the Fleet Planner role include:
Proven experience in logistics coordination or transportation – relevant construction industry knowledge would be helpful but not essential
Intermediate level of IT knowledge – whilst the system in use is bespoke, it is important that you have used planning & booking software, and can use Microsoft packages to a basic degree
Strong understanding of UK Driver regulations and delivery logistics
Strong regional geographical knowledge
Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently under pressure.
Knowledge of ERP systems and fleet management software is desirable.
Full UK driving license is advantageous.
Attention to detail and proactive in addressing issues.A good people person, able to converse with people from all walks of life
