About the role:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? Do you possess the calmness and nurturing spirit needed to support students with challenging behaviours? If so, we invite you to join our vibrant and culturally rich primary school in the heart of Newham, London! As a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in fostering an environment where children feel safe, understood, and encouraged to learn.

You will be instrumental in providing tailored support to students with challenging behaviours, helping them engage positively with their peers and their learning journey. Your compassionate approach and patience will be essential as you work alongside experienced teachers and a dedicated SEN team.

Application Requirements:

• Relevant Qualifications: Candidates should possess a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or a related field. Additional qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or behaviour management are highly desirable.
• Experience with SEN: A minimum of one year’s experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in a primary school setting, with a focus on supporting children with challenging behaviours and special educational needs.
• Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with students, teachers, and parents. The ability to engage with diverse communities and understand various cultural backgrounds is crucial.
• Positive Attitude and Approach: A calm, patient, and nurturing disposition is required, along with a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of behaviour management strategies and a passion for helping children overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support children with special educational needs in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, focusing on those exhibiting challenging behaviours.
• Assist teachers in implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.
• Foster a positive learning environment by promoting social skills and emotional well-being.
• Collaborate with the SEN team to track student progress and adapt strategies as needed.
• Engage with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student development and to support their learning at home.
