Assertive Engagement Outreach Worker – Newcastle

£16-£18 per hour | 12 month contract | Full-time | Drug & Alcohol Support

We’re looking for an Assertive Engagement Outreach Worker to join a dedicated Drug & Alcohol service in Newcastle. This is a hands-on role, working directly with individuals experiencing substance misuse, homelessness, and complex needs. Your mission? To engage, support, and empower people to access the services they need.

What You’ll Be Doing:

✔️ Conducting outreach work in the community—identifying and engaging individuals who may not be accessing support
✔️ Providing harm reduction advice and brief interventions to promote safer substance use and improved well-being
✔️ Building trusting relationships with hard-to-reach individuals, offering support tailored to their needs
✔️ Working closely with local services (housing, healthcare, mental health teams) to create seamless support pathways
✔️ Encouraging and assisting individuals to access treatment, housing, and health services

What You’ll Need:

Experience in substance misuse, homelessness support, or mental health
A strong understanding of harm reduction and outreach-based interventions
The ability to engage with hard-to-reach individuals and build rapport
A proactive, non-judgemental approach with excellent communication skills
Experience working in multi-agency environments
A valid driving licence and willingness to travel around Newcastle
