About the Role:

GSL SEN Education are seeking passionate graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or Education Studies to join a specialist school in Birmingham as Learning Support Assistants (LSA). This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children who have an EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) for a variety of conditions, including trauma, ADHD, ADD, OCD, and social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

This role is ideal for graduates aiming to gain practical experience in fields such as Clinical Psychology, Advocacy, Youth/Social Justice, or Education. You'll have the chance to work closely with students, helping them navigate their mental health and learning challenges, while gaining invaluable experience in the process.

Key Responsibilities of a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant:

Build trusting relationships with students using a restorative approach.
Support students with complex mental health and emotional needs.
Help demonstrate the value of education to students.
Assist in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Work closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure each student receives the necessary care and guidance.
Work closely with large provision of 60 children, boys, and girls, aged 5-16.
Working with outstanding SEN Professionals and like-minded Psychology and Criminology graduates
Key Requirements of a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant:

A degree in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or Education Studies.
A sincere passion for working with children who have special educational needs.
The ability to build strong, comfort-based relationships with students.
A genuine interest in understanding the challenges faced by young people with mental health and trauma issues.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Resilience and adaptability to deal with a variety of emotional and behavioural challenges.

Will have a Clear Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce/ Child and Adult Workforce) registered to the Update Service. – If you don’t already have a DBS, we can help you apply for one.
