Unify is proud to supporting an established leading provider of secure collaboration software, as they embark on an exciting period of growth where they are looking to triple the size of their team in the next 1-2 years.

The businesses software sits at the core of a number of nationally significant, but classified, defence programmes and was instrumental in supporting the rapid reaction to the COVID pandemic in the NHS.

POSITION:

As the DevOps Manager you will play a critical role in driving the development, deployment, and operational efficiency of our secure cloud-based collaboration platform. You’ll be responsible for the implementation of infrastructure and tooling to ensure high availability, scalability, and resilience for our clients. You’ll work closely with development, security, and product teams to automate workflows, manage CI/CD pipelines, and continuously improve deployment strategies.

This role requires hands-on expertise in cloud platforms, container orchestration, and infrastructure as code (IaC), and demands an eye for optimizing systems that are highly secure and compliant with industry standards.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you’ll be instrumental in shaping the DevOps culture at the business, fostering a mindset of agility, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You’ll evaluate and implement best practices, mentor future team members, and champion automation initiatives to streamline our deployment processes and improve the efficiency of cross-functional teams. The DevOps Manager role requires a balance of strategic thinking and operational execution, helping the business maintain its reputation as a trusted provider of secure collaboration solutions to sensitive sectors. This position is ideal for a leader with a strong foundation in DevOps principles, a passion for security, and a commitment to driving innovation in cloud-based services.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

Implement and operate the Deployment Architecture of the businesses service.

Support the Development Team.

Ownership of the day-to-day security of operational infrastructure.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deployment Architecture

Design input, deployment and maintenance of the service architecture to meet targets on:

Resiliency.

Security.

Performance.

Scalability.

Cost.

Work with developers to ensure architecture is correct and fit-for-purpose:

Work with Dev Manager to ensure infrastructure costs aligns to budget.

R&D on new cloud platforms, new services, tooling, etc. Including prototyping

Infrastructure as code.

Own the deployment process of taking code in repositories to the various targets including:

Development.

Test/QA.

Staging.

Production.

End-of-life older services and provide a migration to replacement services.

Defining and managing maintenance windows. Ensuring patches, anti-virus, software updates and carried out without affecting availability.

Managing physical hosting infrastructure.

Development & Security

Produce migration tooling, scripts, proof of concepts, code samples, security tools, testing tools, lambda tools, etc to help in the operations process.

Owning the day-to-day security and integrity of the services and hosting infrastructure.

Ensuring up to date virus and other vulnerability tools.

Keeping SSL certificates up to date.

Carrying out periodic vulnerability scans.

Working with third party pen testers during periodic pen tests.

Researching threats both new and existing and ensuring the services are adequately protected.

Reporting & Support

Weekly and monthly reporting on key metrics, incidents, issues.

Root cause Analysis and Incident reports after issues.

Build & maintain the monitoring and alerting environment. Dashboards both on PC’s mobile devices and on wall mounted TVs. Key staff alerted on major incidents and warning to prevent an incident occurring in the first place.

Act as third-line support for escalated issues. Manage a basic ticketing system and incident lifecycle.

Support software developers with advice, sample code in areas that interface with the operational environment.

Some out-of-hours ‘on-call’ work may be required.

Some out-of-hours maintenance work may be required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Experience in software application development.

Expert understanding of application design patterns and technologies.

A solid understanding of key technical developments in your area of expertise and the ability to explain what they mean for our clients.

Previous work experience coupled with an IT based degree and / or MCP qualification would be an advantage.

Knowledge of security standards such as ISO27001.

Experience of dealing with new cloud platforms, new services, tooling, etc. Including prototyping. Infrastructure as code.

Experience of security and hosting infrastructure.
