Operations Director – Contracting
Overview
To ensure the smooth and efficient planning, management and resourcing of contracts. Developing the operations teams to enable projects to be completed on time and to budget to the satisfaction of our clients.
Responsibilities
*Pre-Commencement
*Providing additional operational support where required for bid submissions and marketing content
*Attending tender adjudications and advising on potential programme or cost risks
*Ensuring contract programmes are developed and communicated by the contracts managers with any programme or commercial risks identified with mitigation actions agreed.
Contract Delivery
*Reviewing contracting work load weekly and planning the resources required for each project
*Reviewing and managing sub-contractor allocation and performance
*Ensuring that the site teams are getting the right support and resources to achieve a successful contract outcome
*Ensuring contract managers and site teams are uploading and maintaining all relevant information needed for reporting and record keeping
*Ensuring progress reports are being produced whilst assessing and evaluating performance
*Providing technical and contractual support on site when needed
HSQE
*Ensuring all works carried out comply with all current HSQE legislation and company management systems and policies
*Providing visible HSQE leadership whilst promoting and progressing safe working practices across all operations to minimise incidents and or injuries
*Contributing to and influencing changes to company policies or procedures and monitoring compliance.
Commercial
*Ensuring project forecasts are developed with commercial team and contract managers
*Ensuring that the commercial team and client are aware of any potential claim or variation
*Reviewing contract performance with the contracts managers and commercial team to ensure financial targets are met on all projects
*Supporting the commercial team with any contractual or legal matters which may occur
*Reviewing and approving supplier and subcontract orders on the finance system
Our People
*Managing the availability and recruitment of skilled operators and site management teams to ensure the capability exists to meet business requirements
*Managing and motivating teams, setting clear expectations and ensuring feedback on individual performance is provided both informally and formally where required
*Ensuring all operatives and site staff are fully trained and competent to complete their daily tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Customers
*Developing, managing and maintaining relationships with key clients, industry bodies and other external organisations to ensure that the company reputation is maintained and enhanced
*Investigating and resolving customer issues.
Reporting
*Preparing and developing concise operational board reports which provide a true overview of operational and contractual performance on a monthly basis.
Experience
*Experience in a similar role in contracts and operations management ideally within the demolition or enabling works sectors.
*Ability to provide a clear picture on operational performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
*Ability to be an effective communicator at all levels with strong presentation skills in front of a wide audience.
*Proven record of being an excellent team player, with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and push projects forward in a challenging commercial environment
*Strong negotiation skills and knows when it is appropriate to push stakeholders to consider and resolve difficult issues
*Ability to involve others in decisions and empower people to act whilst being clear about expectations
*Ability to effectively utilise a range of software including the MS office suite and project programming systems.
*HNC or degree qualified in a construction related subject
*Membership of a professional body desirable e.g. Institution of Demolition Engineers or Chartered Institute of Building
*IOSH Managing Safely
*IOSH Directing Safely
*Full UK driving licence
