About the Role
A skilled Senior Instrument Designer is sought to join a dynamic engineering and design team based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The role involves supporting pharmaceutical projects through Electrical & Instrument Design and consulting services, with a focus on project delivery in line with time, quality, and budget goals.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment, engaging with project managers and the installation team to ensure effective project execution. This role requires three days on-site in Macclesfield each week to facilitate client and team collaboration, with two days working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate closely with the design team and project manager to support pharmaceutical project delivery.
* Interpret and respond to client requirements, providing design estimates and producing detailed design documentation in line with RIBA stages 2–4.
* Develop project scopes, concept designs, and detailed designs, and maintain high standards of quality and compliance in all deliverables.
* Coordinate and communicate with subcontractors and interface with disciplines including Mechanical, Process, HVAC, and Civil.
* Regularly liaise with the client and attend site surveys to ensure the project remains aligned with client expectations and compliance standards.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Minimum of 5 years in electrical installation design, ideally within the pharmaceutical sector.
* HNC or Degree in a related engineering field; professional membership is desirable.
* Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and experience across project life cycles (from concept through construction).
* Proficiency in hazardous area design and experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Proficient in creating 2D design deliverables, including GAs, equipment layouts, cable and containment diagrams, cable block diagrams, and instrument loop diagrams.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is organised, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Strong communication skills are essential for client interaction, and experience with UK pharmaceutical construction projects will be advantageous.
