Purpose of the role
Colas Ltd. are looking for Electrical Operatives to join and be a part of the Area 9 Maintenance & Response contract with Colas, working on behalf of National Highways. You will be based at Hilton Park Depot, Wolverhampton WV11 2AT. A Electrical operative will deliver both Cyclical and Reactive works they are assigned and will be responsible for safeguarding the welfare and health and safety of themselves and those working around them. You will take an active role in ensuring your own skills and knowledge are up to date and fit for purpose.
Main Responsibilities As an Electrical Operative your duties will include but not be limited to the following:
You will be responsible for Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities.
You will be responsible for delivering electrical works and response over the course of your shift.
You will report directly to the Electrical supervisor on health and safety and progress during shifts you are working on.
To report to Electrical Manager / Supervisor on activities undertaken during shifts they work.
To carry out non-routine maintenance to street lighting, illuminated signs, traffic signals and other pieces of highway electrical infrastructure.
To carry out routine maintenance to street lighting, illuminated signs, traffic signals and other pieces of highway electrical infrastructure.
To carry out the installation of street lighting, illuminated signs, traffic signals and other pieces of highway electrical infrastructure and street furniture.
Will include civils works.
To operate small items of plant and other heavier equipment to carry out the works e.g. compressors, Hiab crane and electrical saws etc.
Enthusiastically identify early opportunities and highlight them to management to the benefit of Colas and their customers.
Lead themselves and work with others over the course of the shifts you work on
Adopt a forward-thinking approach by identifying potential innovative techniques and products for the delivery of technology maintenance. Highlight these to management.
Perform other duties as may be reasonably required.
Monday to Friday shift pattern alternating from days and nights as required (Uplifts for night working and OT)
Cover Callout standby as part of a two-man team on a weekly rota basis
You will Ensure all activities are undertaken with due regard for the environment, to prevent pollution, comply with legal and corporate requirements and minimise environmental impact. Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following:
HERS Sector 8 relevant to role. (Essential)
Full Driving Licence (Essential)
LGV C / CE (preferred)
City & Guilds Electrical installation part 1 & 2 or equivalent
City & Guilds testing & inspection BS7671 – 2391 or equivalent
It is essential the ideal candidate has previous experience working as a highway’s electrical operative or similar. You will have knowledge and application of current technologies, standards and best practice relating to national Highways Motorway and trunk road communications systems. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, forward-thinking individual and an effective communicator who has previous experience of working within high performing teams and be able to work independently without close supervision.
