Assistant Accountant
Hybrid Working
£24,000 - £30,000 (Dependent on Experience) + Excellent Benefits
Permanent, 37.5 per week
About the Role:
As an Assistant Accountant, you will support the Regional Finance Partner and Operational Managers by providing financial advice for a portfolio of retirement properties. You will assist in developing their financial management skills and ensure compliance with both internal and external regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare and post accounting entries such as re-codes, re-charges, accruals, and pre-payments into the ledgers.
* Complete balance sheet and fund account reconciliations.
* Regularly review and validate the accuracy of service charge and revenue variances, providing reports and insights.
* Offer commentary and recommendations to operational and finance teams.
* Support the annual budget process by offering guidance and training to operational staff.
* Respond to finance-related queries from operations teams via Cherwell, email, and workplace.
* Provide finance systems training and ongoing support to operations colleagues.
* Assist in year-end account preparation and audits.
About You:
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
* AAT qualification (or equivalent) or relevant experience, with a willingness to pursue further study; this role may suit a graduate.
* Proficiency in Excel and other IT systems.
* Experience in delivering customer-focused service, ideally within a finance setting.
* Knowledge of reconciliations and the interpretation of management information and KPIs.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
* Experience within the Housing sector (or a similar environment).
* Understanding of service charge legislation as it applies to Housing Associations.
* Audit experience.
* Willingness to travel to various UK locations as required.
