Join Branston as a Trials Officer, where you’ll play a crucial role in our team, ensuring that all our trial plots are grown to the required protocols and varieties proceed through the required assessments. This will involve completing practical tasks such as planning, planting, field and quality assessments, and sensory analysis to produce data to share with cross-functional teams, including Seed, Agronomy and New Product Development.

Main Responsibilities

* Take ownership for the day-to-day tasks for variety development trials, including accountability for data integrity

* Foster strong working relationships with our growers to secure suitable trial sites each year

* Work closely with seed breeders to facilitate the procurement of input trial seed

* Produce accurate planting plans, prepare seed, and distribute to our planting sites

* Plant, monitor and harvest all the trials, as well as take responsibility for equipment and storage of materials. Travel to trial sites is a necessity

* Following harvest, working with Agronomy, ensure all trials material is graded for quality and size and all data is logged and reported.

* Work with NPD to cook each variety periodically throughout the storage season to check for sensory acceptance and quality attributes

* Help out Agronomy with their quality assessments during the storage period

* Assist the Technical Lead for Seed and Variety Development with all tasks needed, including assisting with assessments on commercial seed crops across the UK

Preferably, you will have agricultural experience and have sound working knowledge of potato growing and production. You will have strong interpersonal skills, but be able to work autonomously too, and have organisational skills and be proficient with IT, including the Microsoft suite.
