Long Term Futures is working alongside a large, inclusive secondary school in Newham to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Assistant to join their student support team after the Easter break (April 2025).
This role is focused on supporting pupils with SEMH needs (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), working with students who may be at risk of disengagement or emotional dysregulation. You'll work closely with the pastoral, safeguarding, and behaviour teams to help students overcome barriers to learning and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent 1:1 and small group SEMH support to students in KS3 & KS4
Collaborate with the Head of Year and behaviour leads to support student welfare, behaviour, and attendance
Support children both in and out of lessons, building trusting relationships
Use restorative practices, behaviour mentoring, and structured conversations to build self-regulation skills
Contribute to student behaviour plans and attend multi-agency meetings where needed
Work closely with families, external professionals, and the wider school team
Offer emotional literacy and resilience-based interventions, tailored to individual needs
Ideal Candidate:
Must have experience working in a secondary school setting
Background supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural, or pastoral needs
Experience or understanding of CBT, emotion coaching, or school-based counselling is desirable
Calm, empathetic, and solution-focused with strong communication skills
Confident managing sensitive situations and contributing to safeguarding practices
