Our Client is a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy specialising in fire safety and building services. With a reputation for technical excellence and market-led innovation they provide tailored consultancy services to clients across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Their in-house team includes fire engineers, fire protection specialists, passive and active design consultants, and fire risk assessors.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Fire Engineer to join the growing fire engineering team in the Portsmouth office. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of fire engineering strategies and designs across a variety of high-profile and technically challenging projects in sectors such as commercial, defence, residential, healthcare, and industrial.
Responsibilities
Lead the development of fire engineering strategies and reports from RIBA Stage 0 to 6.
Coordinate fire safety designs with internal MEP teams and external stakeholders.
Carry out detailed fire modelling (CFD, evacuation models, smoke control design).
Provide code consultancy and advice in line with ADB, BS 9999, BS 9991, and international standards (NFPA, IBC).
Undertake site inspections, compliance reviews, and witness testing and commissioning activities.
Participate in value engineering and design risk reviews.
Engage with approving authorities, insurers, and clients to secure project approvals.
Support and mentor junior fire engineers and contribute to in-house technical development.Requirements
Degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline (Mechanical/Civil with fire focus considered).
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in fire engineering, ideally within the UK.
Membership with the IFE or another recognised professional body (Chartered or working toward Chartered status preferred).
Proficient in fire modelling tools such as FDS, Pathfinder, and smoke layer modelling software.
Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant international codes.
Experience delivering projects through all RIBA stages, ideally on complex and multi-discipline schemes.
Comfortable representing the fire discipline in meetings and discussions with design teams and clients.
Full UK driving licence and ability to travel for site visits and meetings.Desirable Skills
Familiarity with passive fire protection detailing and systems.
Previous experience in healthcare or defence projects is advantageous.
Ability to deliver internal CPDs and contribute to the Companys technical growth strategy.
Working knowledge of BIM/Revit coordination in a fire safety context.Benefits
