Main Purpose of Job
* We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Services Manager to oversee the legal side of the business. This is a crucial role within the business and the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Lloyd’s insurance industry, strong leadership skills, and a technical background which transcends services contracts, policy wordings and industry compliance.
Key Tasks
1. Strategic Leadership:
* Develop and implement a legal services plan to ensure regulatory compliance, product clarity and maximise / maintain profitability levels, whilst ensuring TCF adherence.
* Selective engagement of external counsel where required to ensure the above.
2. Policy wordings / Product Oversight:
* Review and approve policy wordings and endorsements to ensure compliance with syndicate business plan, company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
* Product Oversight Group – major contributor
* Monitor underwriting performance (from a policy wording perspective) and advise underwriters on corrective actions as needed.
* Ad hoc slip checking, and implementation of slip checking technology to reduce underwriting errors
* In limited circumstances liaison with the claims team to review claims against wordings agreed & general underwriting intent
3. Legal Contracts:
* Where expertise allows, review of all contracts with third parties
* Engagement of external counsel, maximising cost efficiencies
* Review of group insurances against exposures / contractual liabilities
4. Compliance and Regulatory Affairs:
* Work with existing compliance contractor to share ongoing compliance workload
* Liaise heavily with regulators to ensure the business is up-to-date with regulatory requirements both from an insurance policy and policies and procedures perspective.
* Assist the syndicate manager with returns related to compliance (e.g. eligible complainants)
* Assist with operational resilience, audit management, actioning/monitoring recommendations
5. Review of business consortium/MGA agreements alongside the managing agency DUA/Syndicate manager
Key Technical Skills/Knowledge/Professional Qualifications Required
Legally qualified
Analytical mindset with a focus on strategic thinking and problem-solving.
High degree of experience in reviewing and creating policy wordings, particularly from a liability perspective
In-depth knowledge of underwriting, risk management, and insurance industry trends.
High degree of experience in reviewing service contracts
High degree of experience in regulatory affairs / compliance / Lloyd’s minimum standards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
General computer literacy- Excel, Word etc
