A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the firm’s Employment team, one of the largest and fastest-growing in the East Midlands.
Reporting directly to the Head of Employment, the Employment Solicitor is responsible for managing a significant personal caseload of Employment matters, including conducting your own advocacy where necessary and appropriate.
This role is also responsible for taking an active involvement with business development for the department, including building their individual profile both inside and outside the firm.
The role reports to the Head of Employment and is based onsite at our Derby offices, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
Fee earning:
* Manage a varied caseload of Employment matters that will include:
* Providing employment law advice to education and commercial clients;
* Drafting advice reports, supporting clients with processes and other documentation such as settlement agreements;
* Assisting clients with HR processes and procedures;
* Handling cases through tribunal proceedings; and
* Providing support on employment issues arising in transactions.
* Provide ongoing technical support on matters for more junior fee-earners.
* Taking on ad hoc projects as assigned by the Head of Employment.
* Ensure personal Employment knowledge is kept up to date.
Additional tasks:
* Attend monthly fee-earner meetings with the wider Employment team.
* Attend regular one-to-one meetings with the Head of Employment.
* Provide supervision of matters for more junior fee-earners, sign off work as and when required.
* Contribute to business development strategies for the department.
* Take an active lead in managing the client experience. Attend client meetings where necessary.
* Assist the Head of Employment to ensure the renewal process for existing clients completed in an effective and timely manner.
* Prepare and conduct external training sessions on employment law for prospective & existing clients where required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
You will:
Have experience (2-3 PQE) of dealing with contentious and non-contentious employment law matters. Newly Qualified Employment Solicitors will also be considered.
Possess good knowledge and understanding of tribunal procedures and protocols
Have a high level of knowledge and understanding of employment law
Ideally have an excellent academic background
Possess exceptional client care skills
Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Be highly motivated and able to add value to the role
Be able to demonstrate proactive management of matters with a minimum of supervision
Be a team player and able to get on with others
Possess networking and client development skills
