Behaviour Mentor/Youth Worker
Overview:
We are seeking passionate and resilient Behaviour Mentor/Youth Worker to work with young people on a 12-week programme designed to support those who are Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET). The role focuses on breaking down barriers, influencing mindsets, and guiding young people towards positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work closely with young people to identify and address behavioural challenges that hinder their ability to engage in education and personal development.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with learners, fostering a supportive environment where they feel heard and understood.
* Help young people develop social and emotional skills, promoting resilience and self-confidence.
* Assist in managing classroom dynamics and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
* Collaborate with teachers to deliver engaging group sessions, supporting personal and social development.
* Provide one-on-one mentoring to help learners set goals and track their progress.
* Help learners make informed decisions about their futures, guiding them towards educational and career pathways.
* Work with external agencies, families, and support networks to provide holistic support to young people.
* Maintain accurate records of learner progress and contribute to monitoring and evaluation reports.
Programme Details:
* Funding: DfE 16 to 18 Study Programme Funding (NEET funding for Leeds City young people).
* Structure: 2 cohorts per teacher/behaviour mentor, with approximately 15-25 learners per class.
* Commitment: Full-time equivalent (FTE) post.
Requirements:
* A strong passion for working with young people, especially those facing behavioural issues or challenges in education or personal life.
* Ability to see beyond challenging behaviour and help learners develop the skills they need to succeed.
* Experience working with young people with behavioural issues, although formal teaching qualifications are not required (training can be provided).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire learners.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
Desirable:
* Experience in education, social work, or youth work.
* A teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
