Position: Planning Engineer

Location: Chepstow with hybrid working

Salary: £55-65k (Neg DOE), car, bonus and excellent benefits package

Our Client: Is a fast-growing mechanical and civil organisation providing construction and infrastructure services to the highly regulated oil, gas, water and power generation sectors.

These services include the manufacture of high-pressure pipe systems, their installation and all associated civil, mechanical and electrical works.

They have several frameworks with the Gas Distribution Networks and also contract directly to Oil organisations, Ports and Private Networks.

The past 18 months has seen significant growth in their project count and project complexity, and they are looking to continue that growth.

The Role: To date, all project and resource planning has been carried out by their project managers. Due to the increase in workload, they are looking to bring in a talented planning engineer to help centralise this process and increase their capacity, capability, quality and control.

There is scope for the individual to grow with the business and shape and lead the planning department in the future.

Responsibilities: Initially the planner will support approximately 5-10 small and medium-sized construction projects (circa £100k-£1.5m per project), controlling the project plans, providing weekly progress updates, capturing and reporting changes etc in line with contractual obligations. The planner will also support the broader delivery and resource schedule and provide technical planning support to the tendering team.

Work with project teams to integrate time and cost.

Ensure the month-end reporting process is supported and achieved by the project teams.

Promote the development and co-ordination of schedules at project level assuring alignment and integration.

Apply critical path analysis and minimise organisational risk by identifying the critical path for contracts.

Produce progress reports showing variance against the baselines.

Enable Project Management to control the progress of contracts by identifying and producing integrated programmes of work, monitoring performance against plans and identifying problem areas and other effects.

Enable control of the progress of procurement by producing schedules for all materials and equipment, updating regularly and analysing the implications of updates.

Experience: Extensive planning experience, ideally within the oil or gas sectors.

Experience of civil, general engineering or construction will also be considered there is plenty of specialist expertise within the business.

Good technical/engineering knowledge.

Sound understanding of planning skills and programming.

Proficient in the use of Primavera P6

Clear understanding of the contractual elements linked to a programme and skills in claim situations.

Qualification in a construction or engineering related discipline would be preferred.

Good communication skills with the ability to work closely with project delivery teams.

Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
