About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

The Disrepair Manager role at Haringey Council is a critical position, tasked with a high-profile operation to manage and conclude Disrepair cases. You will manage a team of varied roles in actively and professionally managing the necessary aspects of case management and repairs completion, liaising with a wide variety of Council staff and contractors providing legal and repairs services. In addition to managing the team, the role requires attention to detail and highly proficient organisational skills to ensure that outcomes are of a high quality and are reported on with accuracy, to ensure that reliable information is available for Senior Management for decision making purposes.

Working for Haringey

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.  Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.

About you

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Disrepair professional, ideally having a strong understanding of legal merits of claims, providing instructions to solicitors, managing staff and programmes of work. In addition, they will understand the process of bringing repairs to site from the point of receiving the initial claim, recognising practical and commercial considerations and acting accordingly. The ideal candidate will have successfully achieved results within Disrepair teams in the past, with the demonstrable skill set and knowledge base required to step into the role and integrate smoothly into the team, under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Disrepair Manager.

They will have strong communication skills, a solutions focussed mindset and a strong work ethic. As part of the ongoing project to build a service fit for the future, they will take direction from senior managers with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude. It is essential that candidates have proficient use of Microsoft Office and repairs systems and databases to fulfil this role. They will play a role in the implementation of new systems to modernise and further professionalise the operation.

About the team

Our Disrepair team is a highly skilled and professional group, participating in an exciting restructure that will permanently redefine the Council’s capabilities with regard to this service area. Within the team, we have roles pertaining to case management and repairs, including administrators, surveyors and co-ordinators. The team will continue to grow as new roles are planned as part of the re-structure, to unlock additional capabilities and develop the work of the team.

There is an emphasis on problem solving, dynamism and a strong commitment to delivering results within the team. Due to the nature of the work, there is a strong team ethos which involves co-operation and collaboration on a daily basis. A range of tasks are necessary to resolve the claims both individually and as a project involving complex issues which arise naturally from the work and require innovation and creativity to resolve
