Empowering Learning are supporting an independent provider of specialist education, who support children and young people aged between 7 to 19 years with neurodiverse learning needs. They are seeking to appoint a SENCo on a permanent basis from September 2024, within their community-based provision in East London, that provides therapeutic education for complex and vulnerable neurodiverse pupils.

The specialist provision offers an alternative to residential placements for young people heading towards negative pathways and focuses on catering for pupils who are unable to attend most school settings, aswell as those likely to have experienced multiple exclusions and been out of education for period of time. This programme is about inclusive education and no child attending a school setting and the programme runs for 39 weeks per academic year, with Therapeutic Education Practitioners working with the young people in the community and online, supported by therapists, teaching staff, social workers and other professionals. Attendance and safeguarding are monitored daily.

You will work closely with the Headteacher to deliver strategic development of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision of this community-based service and hold oversight of the management of appropriate interventions and Annual Review process, with the aim of supporting all pupils to reach their full potential. Work collaboratively with the clinical and inclusion team to develop appropriate strategies on a whole service, pupil pathway and individual basis, ensuring that the right resources are in place to deliver the interventions identified on individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS or equivalent.
National Award for SEN Coordination or willing to complete.
Experience of liaising with SEN Teams in Local Authorities.
Coordinating pupil centred annual reviews and providing timely reports.
Supporting neurodiverse children or with ASC and/or SEMH and an understanding of potential implications for communication, learning and behaviour patterns.
Demonstrable experience of raising outcomes for pupils with neurodiverse needs whilst promoting a culture of inclusion.
Working knowledge of Safeguarding & Child Protection Procedures, the National Curriculum, Key Stage requirements and Code of Practice for SEND.
Able to offer a calm response to children with ASC and SEMH and always promote de-escalation and emotional regulation.
Collaborate and work creatively, interpreting the SEN Code of Practice to support pupils.
Promote excellent practice and reflect upon own practice, aware of new developments in practice and policy that effect the role.
Commitment to leading on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

£54,000 - £56,000 (Qualified - Dependent on experience)

£47,064 - £50,416 (Unqualified - Dependent on experience)
