About the Role Cadent is looking for a key individual to join its high-profile Strategy Team. The role has responsibility for developing the company’s net zero energy transition strategy and is a critical member of the Strategy Team reporting to the Strategy Director. We are looking for an individual with energy and enthusiasm for picking up the mantle already set, for high quality thought leadership and policy development. They will regularly present to the Cadent Board, lead initiatives, manage critical external relationships, and be able to carefully evaluate impacts on the business. The individual will need to understand the energy sector well and support our net zero ambitions around and hydrogen.

Key Responsibilities As the Head of Energy Transition, you will play a critical role in shaping and delivering our Cadent’s net zero strategy to drive sustainable and innovative energy solutions. You will lead initiatives to assess, develop, and implement policies and projects that align with our business objectives and regulatory requirements, while ensuring commercial viability and stakeholder engagement.

Develop and Implement Strategic Energy Transition Initiatives: Lead the design and execution of comprehensive strategies that drive the company’s shift toward sustainable energy solutions including hydrogen and biomethane, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, regulatory frameworks, and industry trends. Use advanced analytical tools and econometric methods to assess risks and opportunities, provide policy insight and provide data-driven recommendations.

Lead Project Financing and Commercial Evaluations: Oversee the financial structuring, evaluation, and funding of energy transition projects, ensuring commercial viability and compliance with investment criteria. Conduct detailed business scenario analyses to identify and mitigate risks, optimize resources, and achieve desired outcomes.

Manage and Strengthen Stakeholder Relationships: Build and nurture effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including internal teams, external partners, policymakers, and industry regulators. Act as a credible representative of the company, confidently presenting strategies, proposals, and updates to influence key decisions and drive collaboration.

Communicate Complex Concepts with Clarity: Translate intricate business models, technical frameworks, and financial analyses into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers. Develop high-quality narratives and messaging to inform and inspire internal teams, senior leaders, and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and engagement at all levels.

Drive Innovation and Organisational Change: Act as a catalyst for innovation by challenging traditional practices and identifying new opportunities for business transformation. Foster a culture of adaptability and proactivity, leading efforts to overcome challenges, manage ambiguity, and deliver impactful results that align with the Cadent’s energy transition objectives.

Skills and Experience
Degree level or equivalent experience
Detailed understanding of UK energy policy
Expertise in econometrics, business scenario assessment, and strategic analysis.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet challenging deadlines, and thrive in ambiguous environments.
Proven capability to lead change, think commercially, and deliver innovative solutions.
