We are now looking for a Planning Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week.

The Role
As a Planning Officer, you will provide effective and community-focused planning services to conserve and enhance the natural and built environment of the National Park.
Specifically, you will manage the impact of developments on Exmoor’s special qualities, ensuring they contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of communities. You will work to targets and deliver a professional and friendly service to applicants and service users.
Additionally, you will:
- Process planning, listed building, and other applications within statutory deadlines
- Negotiate with applicants and agents to align proposals with policies
- Act as the first point of contact for the public
- Offer guidance and advice in person, on-site and via letter, phone and email
- Draft reports and present them to planning committees
- Monitor development sites to ensure compliance with planning conditions
- Investigate alleged breaches of planning control
About You
To be considered as a Planning Officer, you will need:
- A degree in Town and Country Planning or equivalent experience
- An RTPI qualification or be working towards it
- An understanding of National Park purposes and planning in protected landscapes
- The ability to manage workloads and meet statutory deadlines
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work objectively in challenging situations
- A UK driving licence to travel to remote rural locations without access to public transport
