YourTeaching Ltd are seeking a proactive and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our team at a thriving secondary school in Gillingham, Kent. About the Role:
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes during teacher absences, ensuring that students remain focused, engaged, and productive. You will manage the classroom environment, implement the work set by the absent teacher, and support students in staying on track with their lessons. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to contribute to their academic success in a supportive, structured setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervise classes and maintain a positive, orderly environment in the absence of the regular teacher.
* Ensure students engage with the lesson materials provided and stay on task.
* Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policies, promoting a respectful and productive atmosphere.
* Provide support to students who may need additional help understanding the work or staying focused.
* Take the register and monitor student attendance during cover periods.
* Liaise with teaching staff and senior leaders to ensure the smooth running of lessons and the timely distribution of work.
* Contribute to the overall welfare and pastoral care of students, offering support as required.
* Assist in administrative duties related to lesson cover, including the return of completed work to the relevant teacher.
* Act as a positive role model for students and uphold the values and standards of the school.
About You:
* Experience working with young people, either in a school or similar setting, is desirable but not essential.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with students and staff.
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage classroom behaviour and keep students on track with their learning.
* A calm, confident, and adaptable approach to problem-solving.
* A positive and proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* A genuine interest in supporting students' learning and personal development.
Desirable Qualifications/Skills:
* A qualification in education or a related field (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification) is an advantage but not required.
* Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is beneficial.
* First Aid certification (or willingness to undergo training) is a plus.
