Powertrain Calibration / System Performance Engineer - Coventry - £38,000 to £54,000 plus excellent benefits

Jonathan Lee Recruitment is helping one of the world's leading technology companies for development, simulation and testing in the automotive industry recruit a Powertrain Calibration / System Performance Engineer, and the role comes with a highly competitive salary and excellent benefits.

The roles will typically cover a variety of functions and disciplines, including ICE calibration, powertrain system performance development, data analysis, issue investigation & resolution, system modelling and simulation. Work in new powertrain sectors (battery, fuel cell, etc) is also a possibility.

Some industry or academic experience is preferred, but training will be offered & given to candidates as required. 

In your first few weeks in this Powertrain Calibration / System Performance Engineer role, you can expect to:

Develop and manage powertrain calibrations using client toolsets & processes
Define, generate & manage engine test plans
Plan, execute and analyse engine & system simulation activities
Completed system performance assessments, including trade-offs and data analysis
Review data and root cause analysis (RCA) to identify powertrain system issues & develop solutions for resolution
Conduct system modelling, calibration simulation, using toolsets such a Matlab SIMULINK
Functioning within a professional team, generate & present reports (verbal & written) including recommendations and proposals
Work with other internal and external teams to deliver project objectives
Promote best practice and robust technical solutions using toolsets as appropriate
To apply for this Calibration Engineer role, your soft skills, expertise and experience should include:

2:1 or above Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant topic
Excellent understanding of diesel internal combustion engine operation and performance
Knowledge of ancillary systems (air path, exhaust aftertreatment technologies, control, etc)
Understanding of vehicle architecture & control systems
Experience or knowledge of vehicle emissions requirements
Good knowledge of simulation systems, particularly Matlab SIMULINK
Working knowledge of calibration toolsets & engine calibration, including trade-offs for emissions and performance
Excellent analytical skills, able to interpret data and results and present results in a clear & understandable format
Strong team player, with good communication & English language skills
A self-starter, 'can-do' approach, able to work with other team members at all levels to reach 'win-win' agreements
A strong willingness to learn and develop

Highly Desirable Attributes

PhD in relevant subject
Knowledge of the off highway (NRMM) or heavy duty on road sector, including emissions legislation (Stage V, Tier 4 final, etc)
Experience of using calibration and data analysis tools (e.g.: AVL CONCERTO, Vector CANape, AVL CAMEO, DIAdem, etc)
An understanding in the techniques, process, toolsets & methodology for Virtual Calibration
Expert NRMM ICE experience (calibration, analysis & simulation)
Good knowledge of NRMM machines and associated systems
An interest in non-ICE based power technologies (Fuel Cells, battery systems, etc)
Controls & calibration development using SiL & MiL techniques
Familiarisation with 1-D simulation tools (Eg: GT-Power)
You'll receive an excellent salary of up to £54,000 p/a and benefits package for your knowledge, expertise and flexibility.
