Telent are now looking for a Traffic Installation Technician to join the Traffic Signals Engineering team - this is a FIELD BASED role that will predominantly cover the Salisbury / Wiltshire and Hampshire regions.
Due to an increase in work with our local authority customers, this is a fantastic opportunity to join us if you are looking to develop your electrical installations / installing experience within a niche Traffic Signalling industry. We can offer you further development opportunities AND an option to complete the NVQ Level 2 Highways Electrical Systems certification through us, led by the LANTRA board.

This Traffic Installation Technician role will see you installing Traffic Signals / Traffic Signalling units and equipment like Controllers and Radar Systems, including the installation of Ancillary equipment, Cahmbers and Coils underground, and other related highways systems. This is an outdoors role, and requires someone that is happy to work in the field who is a self-starter, self-motivated and driven to support the delivery of key Traffic Signals installations projects.
Traffic Installation Technician - What you'll do:
Carry out installations of road Traffic Signals units / road Traffic Signalling units and associated electrical equipment
Carry out testing of road Traffic signal equipment
Installing cables / cabling and joints underground / overground
Work from cable schematics and wiring diagrams to customer specifications
Wire cables at top caps and basic controllers to an agreed specification
Ensure all test equipment, PPE and Vehicle are compliant, with up-to-date certifications as required
Ensure all site specifications for quality and accuracy are complied with
Liaise with customers on site and other Contractors like the Civils teams / Traffic Management team that may also be on site
Be aware of Health & Safety at work and be alert in identifying potential hazards by removing or minimizing them wherever possible, following all Health & Safety procedures
Apply installations experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise
Work with a moderate degree of supervision but can work autonomously in line with direction and procedures
Carry out on site risk assessments where applicable and follow method statements
Attend team briefs / Toolbox talks as requiredTraffic Installation Technician - Key requirements:
Possess basic electrical installations experience
Any current road Traffic Signal installation experience is advantageous, although, any experience in Street Lighting installs, ANPR systems installs, any Highways related electrical equipment installs, Speed Camera installs, outdoor CCTV installs, outdoor Lighting system installs, Fibre & Copper installs, or other outdoor equipment install experience is advantageous
Has working knowledge and skills to perform a defined set of analytical/scientific methods or operational processes
General IT skills - ability to use a Tablet and mobile phone device
Works well within a team and as an individual
Self-starter, self-motivated and a driven individual that is keen to develop an Engineering career
Has proficiency for following technical processes or procedures through job-related training and work experience
Any relatable Certification in Electrical Installations / City & Guilds / NVQ's / NRSWA / CSCS / NHSS / Chapter 8 certs would be an advantage
