Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon. Penzance. £40k - £70k DOE
An animal lover for as long as you can remember, all you wanted to do was look after and care for sick animals. It made sense that your chosen career path was going to be in veterinary.
A long hard slog later and plenty of late nights studying you made it, a fully qualified veterinary surgeon.
But a couple of years in you are starting to think this isn’t what you signed up for.
The production line consults, less time with the patient, faceless management, and the bottom-line taking precedence over everything else.
But it needn’t be like this.
You became a vet to help animals and give back to the profession you love. Work with a caring team, own your cases, progress, and be the best vet you can be.
Luckily there are still places like this and this one is hiring.
Owned and run by two vets who grew up in the area, this practice in Penzance 500 yards from the beach, is hiring for growth.
With dozens of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews, this five vet five nurse practice is looking for a two-year vet to join their team. They are looking for a GP vet with the ability to provide 1st opinion consultations, undertake surgical procedures, dental, and some emergency surgery plus any additional skills such as Orthopaedic, Cardiology, and Imaging an added bonus. Lots of opportunity to develop your skills in the direction you want to.
Everyone pulls together when there’s work here, and relaxes when it’s time. A strong team that wants their best for patient and practice.
That’s the beauty of being independent, they are not in the crosshairs of corporate life, no one telling you what to do from afar, and no pointless targets - the job is tough enough without adding additional stress.
They have recently expanded with additional space for a second theatre, a new dental suite, walk in kennels, and larger isolation kennels for dogs and cats. They are committed to their team and to remaining independent, so future plans are centred around internal management and ownership.
They are an ambitious business with a vision to expand into the neighbouring area next year.
It's a 4-day week here with some OOHs and one weekend in 5 ( why would they want anybody else looking after their precious patients?)
So, what’s in it for you?
£40k-£70k DOE. RCVS and one other membership paid for, a comprehensive CPD budget of £1500 plus 3 days of study leave and relocation where appropriate. With a protected lunch you can easily get for a walk on the beach, to enjoy the views of St Michaels Mount.
By the coast you are spoilt for things to do, from walks, surfing, kayaking, hiking, rock climbing coasteering, and paddleboarding to name a few.
Located less than 20 from Porthleven and St Ives with plenty of shopping, restaurants, galleries, and exhibitions and with a direct train to London and Newquay Airport 45 mins away, what's not to like?
So, what’s next?
Send your CV, don’t worry if it’s not up to date. We can’t get the whole story in a job ad so ask any questions. I’ll answer honestly, no hard sell.
Enjoy being a vet again in a practice that cares
