Senior Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Analogue Electronics Design Engineer
Location: Derby or Warrington / Hybrid
Salary: £48,000 - £62,500 + Excellent benefits

We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.

We are now recruiting for a Senior C&I AED Engineer to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.

What we’re looking for

As a Senior C&I AED Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of hardwired protection and accident management systems for the SMR nuclear power plant ‘reactor island’. This covers the delivery of the complete design of the systems, spanning requirements gathering, development of system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification, and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the systems in support of the overall design of the power station. You will do this by working closely with the engineering teams from across the reactor island and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design.

Working with Plant Process Engineers and other C&I Engineers to gather and develop system requirements.
Translate these requirements into design specifications for the hardwired protection and accident management systems.
Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements.
Ensure that the design is compliant against international standards in particular, IEC 61513, IEC61226 and IEC61508.
Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design.
Support to planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the life cycle of the systems.
Ensure that optimum solutions are provided for the RR SMR Nuclear Power Plant by supporting the procurement, operations, and maintenance aspects of the equipment.
Contribute to the production of safety cases and provide support in liaising with regulators and independent nuclear safety assessors.
As we strive to find the best fit for this position, we are seeking individuals with a minimum level of experience, training, and qualification. But we’ll let you in on a secret: there’s no such thing as the ‘perfect’ candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Relevant Quantifiable Measures

The role involves working across the whole design lifecycle of the hardwired protection and accident management systems classified for nuclear safety applications.

You will act as a responsible designer and intelligent customer dependent on the task you are working on.
You will be responsible for delivering the agreed programme of work.
You will be involved in managing contract partners for work delivery.

Key selection criteria for this role are:

Comprehensive C&I System Design Proficiency
Knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of C&I systems including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety or process critical C&I systems. This together with a good understanding of the principles of designing systems to be functionally resilient to faults (such as redundancy and diversity) would be beneficial.

Adherence to Industry Standards
Knowledge and experience of relevant industry standards for systems important to safety (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61226, IEC 61513).

Application of Advanced System Methodologies
Knowledge and experience of applying systems engineering methodologies including Model Based Systems Engineering to C&I systems.

Effective Stakeholder Communication
Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders.

Technical Oversight Proficiency
The ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by supply chain partners i.e., discharging the intelligent customer role.

Training & Qualification Requirements

Hold a degree level qualification in one or more of the engineering disciplines of electrical, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, mechatronics, physics or computer science.
Applicants without a degree who can nevertheless demonstrate suitable experience may also be considered.

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between £48,000 - £62,500 (DOE) plus:-

Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
£250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
