An exciting opportunity for a new LV Switchgear Design Engineer to join an expanding Design team. Our client Group of Companies provides a complete package of power system technologies to a principally blue-chip client base from its wide-ranging technical portfolio of products and services. The new Design Engineer role will be focussed on providing a timely service to the production team and clients in delivering mechanical designs for LV switchgear and Critical Power businesses
Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position but other qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
The Group in-house Design team provides services for their LV switchgear division, providing end to end design from conception through to manufacturing. As part of this team the Design Engineer will be required to design sheet steel enclosures within an agreed set of standards developed internally and design out the placement of components and other metal work to provide products that meet individual client requirements.
The Design Engineer will also, where required, attend site to carry out surveys for detailed project design. Product knowledge and an understanding of their design philosophy - for which training will be provided - will be important to enable the development of high quality designs. In addition, liaison with clients, as well as sales and production teams will often be necessary to ensure correct interpretation of specifications and to allow for changes as a project develops.
The successful candidate will possess a keen attitude and willingness to uphold high standards of client satisfaction at all stages of a project. You will need to have experience of low voltage switchgear or at least a strong technical background in sheet metal design. You will also need to display the organisation and initiative to prioritise workloads and adapt to changing requirements such that you can ensure that both internal and external clients are satisfied with the service levels provided.
Technical Knowledge – Electrical/Mechanical Equipment
Sheet metal Design using CAD
Designing sheet metal
Autodesk suite of products
AutoCAD Inventor
Complying with H&S requirements.
Good numeracy and literacy skills
Good communication skills
IT literacy – particularly Microsoft Office and Autodesk products.
Desirable Skills / Experience:
The design of Low Voltage Switchgear
Appropriate electrical/engineering qualifications
Working with 3D models, ideally in Inventor (Autodesk)
Those with less experience of Low Voltage Switchgear providing they show a willingness to learn and develop within the role.
