BAM Construction is recruiting an Assistant Buyer / Buyer – Scotland

The role is base in our Scotland Offices (Stepps) with travel required across the Scotland Region. The Buyer supports and delivers the Royal BAM Group UK & Ireland Supply Chain Management and Procurement Strategy to create value, lower risks and drive higher margins through proactive supply chain management, collaboration and knowledge sharing. Through this we can create trust and sustainable relationships with our stakeholders and vendors.

By working collaboratively within the Delivery Assurance team within the Construction segment and the division you will be responsible for the operational implementation of the Royal BAM Group purchasing policy within the Scotland region. You will collaborate with procurement and commercial teams within the region which will support the business in both tender and contract stage Procurement activities.

Your mission

Your role will include but will not be exclusive to:
• Liaison with Tender / Project Teams to develop Material Procurement Plan.
• Manage the implementation of the Material Procurement Plan in collaboration with the project team from tender to close-out of the project, this includes;
o Generating request for quotations for materials,
o Negotiating rates / term and conditions
o Use of VE alternatives to produce better outcomes for BAM
• Use of Manufacturer, distributions specification Framework Agreements for both direct and Indirect procurement.
• Reporting buying gains against budget allowances.
• Ensuring effective Purchase Requisition / Purchase Order creation on SAP MM
• Supporting the 3-way matching process and assisting the project / accounts payable team with invoice queries
• Close collaboration with BAM UK & Ireland category managers to set priorities and follow category plan
• Supplier relationship management, and development of same with operations, commercial and estimating teams
• Supporting the business with performance and supply issues including monitoring Financial Health of Material Suppliers
• Engaging with H&S, Sustainability & Social Value teams
• Supporting Prompt Payment Group
• Supporting Project mobilisations
• Liaising and promoting the services of the following new departments, which will be established at Divisional level;
o Supply Chain Shared Services
o Category Management
o Supply Chain Management Systems

Who are we looking for?

• We are looking for a procurement professional anywhere from Jr to experienced level You will be able to demonstrate your experiences in adding value through commercial and procurement activities and will show commitment to helping the business sharpen its commercial edge by leveraging our scale.
• You are analytically strong, articulate and are able to express your vision clearly. Your excellent interpersonal skills, allow you to develop relationships within the organisation which allow you to constructively challenge the business and you will seek continuous improvement of processes to add value to the business. With your excellent understanding of contractual issues, knowledge of purchasing and supply chain management and with your experience and knowledge of supplier/customer markets, you are a sparring partner for management and commercial teams.
• You have a good knowledge and experience of the supply chain both material and subcontract.
• You are a team player, have good management and people skills.
• You will feel comfortable working both independently and within a team.
• You have strong written and oral expression skills, in English.
• Ability to manage priorities, and to work on their own initiative.
• Competent with IT and open to supporting new systems (SAP MM experience is a bonus).
• CIPS qualified or studying towards it (Beneficial however not mandatory).
• Willingness to travel for meetings throughout UK.
• Driving licence essential.
