Job title - Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist
Location: Hinckley Point C (on-site)
Contract length: 3 to 6 months
Working hours / Rotation: 10 days on, 4 days off shift pattern
Rate: Inside R35
Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services is currently recruiting for a Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer to work for Balfour Beatty, the largest construction and infrastructure provider in the UK.
The Role:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Geotechnical Engineer to join the established team in Hinckley on a 3-6 month contract basis.
The job is to work in a tunnel environment, where they are doing concurrent mining.
You will be working on shaft connections. These are small tunnels connecting to the main tunnel with some vertical shafts. They have 6 in total; 3 main tunnels, 2 small 20m long connection tunnels. 2 are almost completed, 4 more are to be completed.
The successful candidate will have a good experience in performing geological mapping, a bonus would be face mapping. Most of the time you would be based inside the tunnel.
Responsibilities:

Carry out geological/geotechnical face mapping during tunnel excavation works.

Perform rock bolt pull-out testing.
*
Supervise and record all probe hole drilling works.
*
Produce all the appropriate quality geotechnical records.
*
Attend the Daily Review Meeting (DRM) and provide feedback on all geological/geotechnical-related issues.
*
Assist in the preparation of relevant documentation for the DRM Meeting.
*
Verify the implementation of the Required Excavation Support Sheet (RESS) instructions on-site and report any changes in methods.
*
Check conformity with design provisions and drawings.
*
Collaborate with the construction team and workforce to ensure proper and accurate completion of all geological/geotechnical-related tasks.
*
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and quality standards.
Key Skills and experience required:
*
BSc in Geology / Geotechnical Engineering
*
Knowledge of Geological mapping; face mapping would be beneficial
*
Previous experience in geotechnical or tunnelling projects
*
Proven experience in a similar role, with hands-on technical experience
*
Knowledge of rock mass classification systems application and monitoring methods for tunnelling works
*
Fit to work in the underground environment
*
Good reporting, computer and communication skills
Additional Considerations:
*
Vetting will be done before you can start this role
*
It takes 1 month to complete training before going inside the tunnel
*
As shifts can be 10 hours, with gaps in between, you will need to live / stay close to the site near Bridgwater, Somerset during your 10 days on rotation
