Background

This role will involve working with a diverse range of young people across several settings throughout the borough including community sports clubs, schools and youth centre’s providing a high-quality sports coaching offer to young people with varying abilities, skills and needs. Through developing and delivering an engaging sport-based youth work curriculum you will ensure that more young people in Tower Hamlets recognise and utilise the benefits of taking part in sport and physical activity as part of their development and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

* To deliver high-quality, engaging and inclusive sport sessions to young people.

* To coordinate and deliver the Mayors Hub Games, inter-locality sports competitions.

* To work closely with Young Tower Hamlets to create an engaging sport based youth work curriculum to ensure that more young people in a youth work setting realise the benefits of taking part in sport and physical activity.

* To support young people to participate in further competitions andopportunities such as School Games, District Sport and London Youth Games, providing further pathways for young people in participate in sport.

* To be responsible for recruiting and coordinating a team of Volunteer Sports Coaches to further enable opportunities and support across the borough.

* To develop and support a programme of sport and physical activity during school holidays offering families continued access to sport provision, including Holiday Activities & Food (HAF) programme and non-HAF sport based programmes.

* Forge partnerships with local sports clubs and National Governing Bodies for each sport, providing a talent pathway for young people to further develop their skills and pursue excellence in their chosen sports.

* Provide after-school sport sessions on a rotational basis.

* Work closely and in partnership with local schools, youth centres and community sports clubs.

* To increase participation in sport and physical activity amongst targeted underrepresented groups such as girls and young women, people with disabilities and people from diverse backgrounds.

* To work closely with Young Tower Hamlets to create an engaging sport based youth work curriculum to ensure that more young people in a youth work setting realise the benefits of taking part in sport and physical activity.

* .Actively contribute to the council’s priorities and outcomes in a way that promotes a ‘one organisation’ approach.

* Develop and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and communities to ensure the council and the directorate strategic priorities are effectively implemented.

* Promote equality among all staff and ensure that services are delivered in a non discriminatory way, that is inclusive of all disadvantaged groups.

* Support organisational change and learning, following and implementing appropriate systems of self-development, communication and engagement, quality measures, monitoring and review in delivering the functions of the role.

* Promote sustainability, including encouraging a culture of innovation and accountability amongst all council staff.

* Work in partnership with local schools, youth centres, community sports clubs to increase the levels of participation in sport and physical activity.

Qualifications and Experience

* An Enhanced DBS is essential for this role.

* It is essential that you have a relevant sports coach related qualification(s) as well as recent experience of working with young people and stakeholders as part of delivering a diverse range of sports-based activities. Sports highlighted as priority areas for the Council are Hockey, Basketball and Badminton.

* We are looking for coaches qualified and to take a lead develop each of these sports across the borough. This role will report into a Senior Youth Worker.

* The working hours will range of daytime, evenings and weekends in accordance with operational need therefore the ability and flexibility to fulfil this requirement is necessary
