Lead Applications Chemist (Polyurethane) required, based in the West Midlands. Requiring recent, proven industrial experience of polyurethane (PU) formulation and development, particularly knowledge/experience of additives for creating PU foams. A recent PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry is preferred but not essential, with research in polyurethane development essential.

Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 (dependent on experience)

SRG are currently working with a global and innovative business who have been producing speciality chemicals and additives for a range of diverse industries. The business is now looking for a Lead Applications Chemist to join their team in the West Midlands, to lead the development of new stabilizer solutions for polyurethanes and slabstock foams. As well as leading the R&D of PU, this role will also include developing application data for emerging markets, and expanding the product portfolio to include other polyurethane application areas such as thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU). Ideal candidates will hold a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry (although this is not essential), but will crucially have recent, proven industrial experience formulating polyurethanes, polyurethane foams and application testing experience of such products.

Role Description

Lead in the research and development of stabilisation solutions for polyurethanes
Focus R&D on slabstock foams in particular
Develop new and existing packages to meet customer needs
Obtain and review experimental data of the application testing of products
Develop and present application data to both internal and external clients and customers
Keep up to date with new and existing markets of polyurethane and TPU

Requirements

PhD in synthetic organic or polymer chemistry (or similar)
Minimum BSc/MSc in Chemistry
Proven industrial experience of working with polyurethane, flexible slabstock and/or TPU
Good organisation skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Able and willing to work independently
