JOB DESCRIPTION
To align the division to our Zero Harm vision by delivering an open reporting, continuous improvement and learning ethos aligned to driving employee engagement in a “Safety Differently” mindset.
The role is to establish, manage and continually improve and monitor standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure the highest levels of Health, Safety and Environment are achieved by effective local management and implementation of the Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SMS/EMS) across the Gaitskell Way site (including CRD and Transport within the company).
In addition, this role will effectively lead the UK Transport division, where ever it operates, from a safety and environmental compliance to the Group’s and other legal/statutory requirements. The role holder must have LGV experience and have experience of the industry and the Fleet Operators Recognition scheme (FORS) and be a FORS Practitioner or willing to work to it.
 
THE ROLE

Drive a positive safety culture within the companies Industries UK site(s), leadership team and across.
Support the timely delivery of Health & Safety objectives across the companies Industries UK site(s)
Analyse and provide accident/environmental/road traffic incident investigation reports.
Act as first point of contact for internal Group and external health & safety consultants in the provision of training programmes and health and safety services.
Support the improvement and alignment of risk and safety standards.
Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
Ensure the companies Transport Safety and Environmental compliance is high, working closely with the Transport Director and utilizing the internal and external systems.
Strive for FORS recognition, starting with Bronze and progressing to Gold standard.
Have input to, implement, monitor, and improve the local and group Health & Safety policies, procedures and plans in line with legal, group and customer requirement.
Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) / Traffic Commission legislation and any development.
Provide feedback on Safety and Environmental issues and ISO 45001/14001 to the HSE Systems and Compliance Manager. Manage on site compliance to the QMS and EMS established systems
Work With the Sustainability Manager to ensure that BES6001 Sustainable procurement certification is maintained.
Improve compliance, knowledge and engagement with onsite SMS and EMS procedures.
Provide the CRD Division and companies Transport with SMS and EMS KPI and performance updates.
Act as an internal auditor of companies Group Central Safety and Environmental Management Systems
Provide technical and other advice and assistance to the Custom and companies Transport Division leadership team and ensure accountability.
Highlight and support the drive continuous improvement and promote and share best practice.
Be hands on Health, Safety and Environment support with regular manufacturing walks.
Attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Transport related seminars and read professional journals.
Be involved and proactive in local and Group safety meetings to share best practice and drive yearly improvements to reduce accidents and control risk.
Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
Write, maintain and ensure training compliance to Job Safety Analysis and contribute to SOP from a Safety and Environmental compliance perspective and ensuring training records are maintained to the highest standard.
Drive Consultation, through monthly committees, forums and project discussions around Safety and Environmental management on site and the rest of the UK with regards to the companies Transport
Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health, safety and environmental issues and risk.
Keep and maintain accurate records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements.
Record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers.
Manage and organise the hazardous substances through COSHH, Legionella and spill prevention, containment and management.
Carry out any other duties within the capability of the job holder. 
THE CANDIDATE
Education and Qualification(s)

Hold a NEBOSH National Certificate Health & Safety
Hold a FORS (Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme) Practitioner certificate, or willing to train.Experience

Experience in a safety background within fleet transportation and manufacturing is essential.Personal Qualities
