Job Title: Team Manager – Children and Young People’s Disability Service
Location: Sutton council Civic Centre
Division: Children and Young People’s Disability Service
Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Team Manager to lead and manage a team of social workers and specialist support workers within our Children and Young People’s Disability Service. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the team’s work with children and young people with disabilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality interventions for children in need, child protection, and children looked after.
As a Team Manager, you will play a key role in providing guidance and supervision to your team, ensuring the highest standard of practice in safeguarding and supporting children with disabilities. You will also be responsible for performance management, promoting continuous professional development, and ensuring that all cases are effectively managed in line with statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a team of social workers and specialist support workers to provide high-quality services for children and young people with disabilities.
Ensure timely and appropriate interventions for Children in Need, Child Protection, and Children Looked After cases.
Supervise, support, and develop staff, providing regular supervision and performance reviews to ensure that best practices are followed.
Monitor the quality of casework and intervene when necessary to ensure compliance with statutory duties, safeguarding policies, and service standards.
Act as a point of escalation for complex cases and provide expert advice to staff on challenging situations.
Lead the team in delivering a multi-agency approach to support children and families, collaborating with health, education, and other services.
Ensure all case records are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with legal requirements and organizational policies.
Promote and model a person-centred, strengths-based approach to working with children and families.
Monitor the team’s performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) and service targets.
Ensure that team members engage in continuous professional development and attend relevant training sessions.
Participate in management meetings and contribute to strategic planning and service development.Qualifications and Experience:
Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England (or equivalent).
Significant experience working within Children’s Social Services, particularly in managing Children in Need, Child Protection, and Children Looked After cases.
Experience managing a team of social workers and support staff, including providing supervision and performance management.
Strong understanding of legislation, policy, and guidance relating to children with disabilities.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage complex cases and to make decisions under pressure.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.Preferred Qualifications:
Additional qualification or training in Disability, Child Protection, or Safeguarding would be advantageous.
Experience of working within a Children’s Disability Service.Pay Rate: Competitive pay based on experience, up to £48 per hour for highly experienced Team Managers.
Salary will be agreed upon following a successful interview and depending on experience within frontline services.
