Mechanical Technician

c£39,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Newport, Isle of Wight (12-hour rotating shifts)

MC Technical Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Technician to join the team at a Waste Treatment Plant in Newport, Isle of Wight. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-skilled team supporting the day-to-day maintenance of plant equipment and systems. The role includes both planned and reactive maintenance across a range of technologies and machinery.

As the Mechanical Technician, you will be responsible for:

Supporting maintenance of services, plant, and apparatus across the facility
Performing proactive mechanical maintenance activities
Conducting inspections, PPM checks, and reporting
Diagnosing and resolving technical faults in motors, gearboxes, and systems
Reading OEM manuals and working from technical drawings
Contributing to a strong safety culture and operating within permit-to-work systems
Working collaboratively with the wider operations team
Working as part of a 12-hour rotating shift pattern – days & nights (6am-6pm / 6pm-6am)
Other duties as required
To be considered for this role, you should have:

HNC or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
Strong hands-on experience with mechanical systems and equipment
Background in Energy from Waste, Process, or Power sectors
Good understanding of condition monitoring and proactive maintenance strategies
Experience with steam turbines, hydraulic systems, or gear-driven machinery
Familiarity with CMMS systems (training can be provided)
