Job Overview
The Area Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design and development of a diverse range of motorcycle components or areas, ensuring that deliverables meet time, cost, quality, and specification requirements as defined by the NMIP process. This role involves both technical and leadership responsibilities, managing Package Leads, Senior Design Engineers, and Design Engineers where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Delivery
Lead the design and development phases for a wide range of motorcycle components or areas.
Ensure all deliverables align with the NMIP process, meeting cost, time, quality, and specification targets.
Collaborate with Specialists and Chief Engineers to resolve complex technical challenges.
Team Management and Collaboration
Manage and support Package Leads, Senior Design Engineers, and Design Engineers, providing mentorship and development opportunities.
Communicate effectively across the supply/value chain to ensure alignment and maximize team effectiveness.
Provide constructive feedback to foster individual growth and enhance team performance.
Planning and Risk Management
Create and maintain detailed project plans to meet current and future deliverables.
Identify and escalate risks, concerns, and issues through appropriate channels.
Challenge existing processes to improve efficiency while adhering to established guidelines.
Quality and Continuous Improvement
Uphold high-quality standards in all deliverables and instill this focus within the team.
Proactively address quality issues to minimize risks to projects and products.
Additional Duties
Provide pastoral care by mentoring and coaching team members, including performance management.
Act as a stand-in for Functional Leads when required.
Undertake ad-hoc duties and support other projects as directed by management.
Key Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Minimum of GCSE Grade C in Maths and English.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Proven experience in planning and monitoring project progress, leading teams, and addressing challenges with constructive solutions.
Demonstrated ability to meet project targets and deadlines with urgency.
Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment for decision-making.
Desirable
MEng or BEng in an engineering-related field.
Previous experience in the automotive or manufacturing sectors.
