This multi-academy trust has been established for over 10 years and has a strong presence in Manchester, Merseyside, Yorkshire and Staffordshire and, due to a recent internal promotion, the Head of IT is seeking an IT Operations Manager to join the trust on a permanent basis. The trust has 40 academies across the region, consisting of schools that have converted, but also new schools which have been opened by the trust and there is further ambition to continue this growth. As a trust, they have been through a transformation from an IT perspective and technologies are well embedded into the organisation, however they are always focusing on improving their IT infrastructure and looking at projects focused on cyber, cloud and other specialist areas. The central IT team consists of over 25 specialists who are focused on providing a high level of infrastructure support to individual schools, end users and the wider trust team and this is an integral role for the trust. The head office is based in Manchester, however this role will include travel to all areas mentioned above.
Your new role
Reporting to the Head of IT, you will be responsible for delivering a high level of IT service to both the trust and individual academies based across Manchester, Merseyside, Yorkshire and Staffordshire. This will involve daily management of IT services, management of the IT service team with 3 direct reports (and 20 further staff in the service team), working closely with suppliers regarding quality of service and ensuring that the trust's resources and services are fit for purpose and continuously evolving. From a staff management perspective, you will manage 3 regional IT Managers and a Technical specialist, taking responsibility for their professional development and performance management, ensuring they are being developed and that their team is performing well. As IT Operations Manager, this will also involve taking responsibility for both current and future IT projects across the trust, implementing new systems and processes and ensuring the successful completion of such projects. A key part of this role will also be the liaison and building of relationships with both academy and central staff, ensuring they are kept up to date on infrastructure plans and projects and that they understand the positive impact this will have on teaching and learning.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in securing this position, you will possess IT management experience from the education sector, ideally having managed an IT service team for a multi-academy trust, or as a minimum, across a college or school. You will have strong management skills, experience of managing an experienced IT service team and a passion for continuous improvement in relatio to an IT service. Strong relationship-building skills and communication skills will also be essential in this role.

In return, you will be paid a competitive salary of between £50,000 and £53,000 dependent on experience and this also comes with an industry-leading benefits package.
