Preconstruction Manager – North London – Specialist Contractor

Progression Plan for Senior Leadership Level

Summary:

The Pre-Construction Manager will play an integral role in the successful planning and execution of our projects. This role is ideal for a professional who has a solid civil engineering background, preferably with experience as a Setting Out Engineer and a proven track record in managing projects from inception to completion. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading tenders, pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs), and engaging directly with clients to ensure the seamless transition from pre-construction to project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

* Lead the pre-construction phase of projects, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling.

* Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to ensure alignment with project goals.

* Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the pre-construction phase.

Client Engagement:

* Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners.

* Conduct client meetings to understand project requirements, address concerns, and provide regular updates.

Tender and Bid Management:

* Lead the preparation and submission of tenders, bids, and PQQs.

* Collaborate with the estimating and commercial teams to ensure competitive and accurate bids.

* Analyse tender documents and contracts to identify risks and opportunities.

Technical Oversight:

* Provide technical input during the design and planning stages to ensure feasibility and compliance with industry standards.

* Review engineering plans, specifications, and project requirements to provide feedback and recommendations.

* Ensure that all pre-construction activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Project Handover:

* Facilitate the smooth transition from pre-construction to project delivery teams.

* Ensure all pre-construction documentation are complete and accurate.

Qualifications:

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

* Professional accreditation (e.g., CEng, MICE) is desirable.

Experience:

* Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, with a focus on civil engineering projects.

* Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer is highly desirable.

* Proven experience in managing pre-construction activities, including tendering, bidding, and client engagement.

* Experience in running projects from conception to completion.

Skills:

* Strong leadership and management abilities with the potential for growth into a director-level role.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.

* Proficient in project management and estimating software and tools

* Thorough understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and industry regulations.
