About the job you’re considering​

Capgemini Engineering are recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to undertake a role within the Space sector, based at one of our client’s site locations in Stevenage, UK.

This role involves the development and application of engineering practice and knowledge in the following technologies: Design of mechanical systems, devices, equipment and machines; installing and maintaining mechanically functioning equipment; simulating a wide range of interactions and evaluate performance in real world scenarios; and develop prototype for manufacturability, testing and validation.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll help set the direction, drive forward the business, model our values and behaviours, and coach and develop junior members of the team. We’d love to meet with someone who is motivated and can deliver against key client expectations listed below

This role is available to UK nationals with ability to obtain SC clearance only.

Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.​

Your role

Operational, Technical, Quality, Planning and Delivery

• Work as Manufacturing Process Engineer to support the ‘Assembly, Integration and Test’ operational team at our client’s location in Stevenage, UK.

• Produce Technical Instructions to support the manufacturing schedule. Produce route cards, identify production defects, and develop corresponding rework and repair methods.

• Support quality reviews and RCAs using lean / six sigma tools. Develop lessons learnt and support PFMEA reviews to reduce non-conformance.

• Possess excellent communication skills with ability to understand and use complex technical feedback to iterate existing manufacturing processes.

• Lean / Six Sigma experience (ideally green belt or higher), support process development, implementation, monitoring, and improvement. Optimise and standardise processes.

• Support the development, maintenance, and delivery of training material.

• Support tooling reviews, conduct safety reviews and support critical handling activities.

Outside of the project environment you will be responsible for:

Building Relationships

• Work with interfacing teams and local experts to ensure technical aspects are understood and accounted for as required. Capture and utilise lessons learnt. Identify, document and share best practice.

Develop Capability and Technical Offers

• As part of your role you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the business and your own personal growth, through activities in business development, internal contributions and learning & development.

• Drive a culture of data driven continuous improvement. Work with all functions to grow the ME portfolio while ensuring compliance to all relevant Capgemini and client policies and standards.

• Responsible for continuing professional development to meet the required competencies for the role. Continuously seek to expand knowledge and experience to increase effectiveness in undertaking existing and new activities.

• Build relationships and network with existing and new clients. Leverage experience to help build technical offers in conjunction with (pre-)sales teams.

• Working with the Manufacturing Function to develop and grow Manufacturing Engineering capability in your business unit.

Your skills and experience​

• Professionally Qualified Engineer: degree in Engineering or significant experience following apprenticeship in aerospace / space industry is an advantage. High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi-project basis.

• Experience in manufacturing engineering for electro-mechanical components, including handling and assembly of RF critical components. Experience in mechanical & electrical design, manufacturing, and validation.

• Project specific requirement: ability to work offsite (UK and abroad) for undefined periods at short notice. Work overtime and occasional shifts, as and when required. Ad hoc shifts and overtime plus “on call” work will be a part of the project.

• Experience working in a shop or factory environment and leading data driven improvement projects to improve supply chains, manufacturing methods and product delivery.

• Ability to compile, analyse, interpret, and present data from various sources to steer projects across product assembly and supply chains.

• Six Sigma experience with Green Belt or Black Belt qualification. Ability to lead and implement projects on own initiative with high attention to detail.

• High level of technical skills with in-depth understanding of space industry assembly, integration, and test processes. Ability to interpret engineering and technical drawings, experience in procedures and process control and understanding of build documentation to ensure clear instructions are given to shop floor operations.

• Experience in Manufacturing Systems and enabling software tools relevant to the industry. G

• Good planning and PLM skills (Windchill, P6, IPS, 3D experience or other similar systems) and understanding of MRP systems is an advantage

• Experience of working in a clean room environment, good understanding mechanical handling of equipment and knowledge of Health and Safety principles and their application to the specific environment

Your security clearance

To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. ​

To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.​
