Are you a resilient, compassionate, and dedicated Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you thrive in environments where you can help students manage their emotions, develop social skills, and engage with learning?

We are seeking a Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Hyde. This alternative provision supports approximately 97 pupils aged 5 to 14, providing a structured and nurturing environment for children who require specialist behavioural and emotional support. The role requires an individual with experience in challenging behaviours, trauma-informed practice, and therapeutic interventions to ensure every student can succeed academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

Support students with SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and complex behavioural needs in accessing the curriculum.

Implement de-escalation strategies, positive reinforcement techniques, and tailored behavioural interventions.

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external therapists to support each student's Educational Health Care Plan.

Provide 1:1 and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, social skills, and academic engagement.

Assist in the delivery of structured, differentiated learning activities to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Promote positive mental health strategies and help students develop coping mechanisms for managing stress and anxiety.

Supervise students during unstructured times (e.g., break and lunchtimes) to encourage positive peer interactions.

Foster a trauma-informed approach, ensuring students feel safe, valued, and supported.

What We're Looking For:

Experience working with children with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural difficulties within a specialist, alternative, or PRU setting.

Knowledge of Restorative Practice, Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour management approaches (training can be provided).

A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting students with high levels of need.

A passion for promoting inclusivity, emotional well-being, and engagement in learning.

Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies.

A commitment to safeguarding and child protection, with an enhanced DBS check required.

Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3, Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or SEN/SEMH qualifications (desirable but not essential).
