Job Title: MI Senior Lead

Location: Ad hoc travel to Manchester required (Flexible Hybrid working)

Markerstudy is a leading provider of private insurance in the UK, insuring around 5% of the private cars on the UK roads, 20% of commercial vehicles and over 30% of motorcycles in total premium levels of circa £1.2b.  The majority of business is written as the insurance pricing provider behind household names such as Co-op, Sainsbury’s, O2, Halifax, AA, Saga and Lloyds Bank to list a few and Markerstudy also has a large and growing direct presence in the market as well.

Role Purpose:

Working with the Head of MI Development to deliver high quality data management across Markerstudy. You will be responsible for leading a team of Developers or Reporting Analysts that are responsible for the optimal performance of MI data processing platforms, including code optimisation and capacity management, as well as reporting and insight initiatives.

You will also have responsibility for providing meaningful management information data into the business to support improved Financial and operational performance, to manage and maintain technical solutions and BAU support.

To act as mentor to your team, utilising their advanced system knowledge bring on the wider team and to adhere to FSA, TCF, GDPR Regulations, and the completion of Mandatory E-Learning.

Responsibilities

To support the MI manager and MI and Analytics Head of to build and manage the BI platform so that Markerstudy business data and analysis requirements can be retrieved, stored and viewed efficiently

To support the MI Manager to define data warehousing strategy and timeline, To oversee and maintain robust data dictionaries and models on a regular basis

To Proactively take ideas, concepts and relationships forwards to support department data initiatives which help to inform the overall strategic direction of the business

To be an advocate of data governance activities, policies and procedures

To help drive continuous improvements in data quality standards

To assist with the resolution of known data issues, ensuring root causes are identified and sustainable solutions are developed and implemented, liaising with IT to fix issues, as required, technically bringing on junior member of the team

To assist with data risk prioritisation and reporting

To help ensure that day to day data processing completes, to agreed timelines with no failures, high level understanding of the Data warehouse as a whole from end to end

The role holder will be responsible for the management and leadership of the SAS developers and or Analysts. Ensuring optimum planning of workloads to reduce single points of failure. Internally there is daily contact with the developers, analysts within MI, and as required stakeholders in finance, IT, reserving and underwriting teams to name but a few.

Essential Skills

Advanced Excel

Previous experience in a BI role 

Experience of data quality management concepts

Essential Experience of SAS code and use of SAS EG or SAS VA

Essential Experience of SAS DI studio

Proactive problem-solving skills

Detailed data analysis and presentation skills

Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical detail into simple language that non-technical people can understand

Able to operate in a fast-changing market and environment, often tackling issues without clear precedents

Organised, methodical, able to deliver to agreed deadlines

Confident in own judgement and decision-making, sees challenges as development opportunities not problems

Desirable Skills

Previously held team leadership role in a similar function 

Experience of Power BI

Experience of TSQL

Experience using MS Dev Ops for workflow and CI/CD pipelines.

Educated to degree standard
