Job Description 1:1 Learning Support Assistant

This primary school in Worthing is a welcoming and inclusive environment that prioritises both academic and personal development for children of all abilities. Known for its strong commitment to supporting special educational needs, the school tailors learning approaches to ensure each child receives the individual attention they need to thrive. With a broad curriculum that balances academics, creativity, and physical activity, the school fosters a sense of community and respect among students, staff, and families. Outdoor learning is also emphasised, encouraging children to engage with nature as part of their educational experience.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a bright and gentle child with autism. The role involves working closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored educational experiences outside of the main classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide individualised support for the child, focusing on creating a calm and engaging learning atmosphere.

Assist in developing strategies to help the child navigate structure and routine, while encouraging active participation in lessons.

Work collaboratively with the class teacher to adapt lesson plans and materials to suit the child's unique learning style and needs.

Foster a positive, trusting relationship with the child to help them feel secure and supported.

Monitor and track progress, adjusting support methods as needed to ensure continuous development.

Help the child manage transitions and cope with changes in routine, offering guidance to minimise stress and discomfort.

Required Skills and Attributes:

Experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs.

Patience, empathy, and the ability to build a strong rapport with the child.

Adaptability in working with non-traditional learning environments and approaches.

Strong communication skills, both with the child and in coordinating with the teaching team.

A proactive and creative mindset for engaging the child in learning while helping them develop coping strategies for routine and structure.
