Level 2 Process Operators required for our client based at their Carrington Site near Manchester on a 2-year fixed term basis with possible permanent opportunities.

Mechspan, the paper industry experts, are working in partnership with Saica Paper, a leader in sustainable paper manufacturing, looking for an experienced Process Operator to join their successful growing team on a fixed term basis.

This is a field-based role, which at times involves working in a challenging environment that can be physically demanding. Ideal candidates need to be able to adapt quickly to a process which may change at short notice.

Responsibilities:

* Monitor, maintain and start up plant to achieve process continuity in an efficient manner, following safety, quality and environmental regulations established by the company.

* Notify the Lead Operator and/or Shift Manager of any event that occurs or is detected, which may or could affect process continuity by means of work orders.

* Notify the Lead Operator and/or Shift Manager of any absence from work due to a work accident/incident.

* Actively participate in line housekeeping.

* Form part of the second response team in the event of an emergency.

* Regularly carry out Total Preventative Maintenance checks to ensure associated plant is running to optimum specification and any defects/issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner.

* Correctly sort the waste generated in the work carried out during his/her shift, in accordance with the company environment policy.

* Support the Lead Operator in performing the production programme in accordance with production targets, complying with quality specification with the greatest overall efficiency possible.

* Carry out work during scheduled monthly annual or general downtimes in line with the plan and instructions of the shift manager to attain the objectives set with regards to duration.

* Keep department installations, machines and tools in perfect working order.

* Carry out tasks as assigned by the shift manager.

* Help the Lead Operator to maintain, restart or modify production conditions: review, check, prepare or act on elements or installations in the section.

* Occasionally carry out jobs at a higher hierarchical level, if required in the section.

Candidate Profile:

* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in relevant discipline (desirable)

* Experience of working in a continuous manufacturing process (desirable)

* Experience within the paper industry would be an advantage

* Ability to learn quickly and apply learnings to achieve optimum levels of job performance

* Excellent team worker as well as an ability to work on own initiative

* Flexible with high levels of commitment

* Computer literate

Further Information:

You will be required to work 12-hour shifts – 2 x day shifts (6am – 6pm) and 2-night shifts (6pm – 6am) followed by 6 days rest, you will follow this continuous shift pattern throughout the year

Annual Shut Down/Shutdowns – Annual shut down usually lasts for 1 week and during this period, additional shifts on top of the usual rota are mandatory for all Operators.

Rota for this period is released a few weeks prior to the shutdown week.

There is a 24-hour shut down once every 5 weeks. During this period, additional shifts are required & mandatory.

Additional shifts are stated on the rota when it is issued for the full year (usually issued October for the following year).

Training

Operators are required to attend mandatory training courses which include.

- Working at Height

- Forklift Truck

- Confined Spaces

- MEWPs

- Overhead Crane

- Emergency Response Team Training

Some training courses will be carried out using external training providers and will be arranged during rest days. Individuals can add these hours to their annualised hours or receive overtime payment (depending on annualised hours’ situation).

Working Conditions

The working conditions can vary depending on the role being undertaken but examples of types of conditions which can be experienced are as follows.

- Hot, dusty, wet and noisy

- Some circumstances may involve working in confined spaces or at height

PPE is provided & is a mandatory requirement which must be always adhered to in required areas.

Fixed Term Contract

Contracts are initially offered for a 2-year fixed term period.

During these 2 years’, should permanent vacancies become available then operators are encouraged to apply if they demonstrate the correct behaviours and are deemed to be capable of carrying out a Level 2 Operator role successfully
