About the school:

Our school provides a unique, mainstream-style education with a specialist approach, helping remove the barriers often faced by students with special educational needs. Nestled in Harrow, we offer bright, lovely classrooms and state-of-the-art facilities, including specialised outdoor learning spaces designed to support children’s learning and development holistically. Our diverse and inclusive environment means you’ll be part of a school that values every child’s potential and works tirelessly to help them achieve their best.

About the role:

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We have an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team in Harrow. This full-time, long-term role will see you working alongside a welcoming school community that’s committed to giving every student the chance to thrive.

As an SEN TA with a specialism in SEMH needs, you will play a vital role in supporting children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Working closely with teachers, you will assist students with a range of SEMH challenges, providing both academic and emotional support to help them overcome their personal hurdles. You will be a key player in promoting independence, resilience, and confidence in children who may otherwise struggle to engage in a mainstream classroom.

This role requires someone who can connect with students, using empathy, patience, and creativity to inspire and motivate them. You’ll be working 1:1 and in small groups, tailoring your approach to meet the individual needs of each child, and ensuring they feel included and supported in their learning journey.

Application Requirements:

• Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs.
• Strong communication skills and a nurturing approach.
• A passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
• Ability to work as part of a close-knit team.
• A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide tailored 1:1 and group support to students with SEMH needs.
• Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering learning activities.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students, helping them to manage their emotions and behaviour.
• Use creative strategies to help students engage with the curriculum.
• Work collaboratively with the SENCO and other staff members to implement individual learning plans.

Perks and Benefits:

Joining our school means becoming part of a supportive and collaborative team. We believe in continuous professional development and offer a range of CPD opportunities. You’ll also benefit from working in a school with a fantastic community feel, state-of-the-art facilities, and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing and success of both staff and students. Expect to be welcomed into a nurturing, family-like environment where every day brings the chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of our children.
