We are seeking dedicated Household Recycling Operatives/Waste Operatives to join our team on a 4-month fixed-term contract.
 
You will be required to work across multiple sites, ensuring the safety, security, and efficient operation of public utility waste disposal and recycling facilities.
As this role involves site coverage, you must be flexible and willing to travel to any of the 9 designated sites as needed.

Job Title: Household Recycling Operative
 
Location: Briddlesford Rd, Newport PO30 (and other sites as required)
 
Contract: 4-Month Fixed Term
 
Salary: £12.00 per hour
 
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off rota, 9:45 AM to 6:12 PM
 
Key Responsibilities:
 Safety and Security:
Ensure the safe operation and condition of premises, plant, and equipment always in accordance with health & safety regulations and SEPA guidelines.
 Customer Assistance:
Provide support, advice, and assistance to members of the public, including helping them with lifting heavy items into containers or carrying waste up and down steps.
 Waste Handling:
Perform general labor tasks, including loading, unloading, and sorting waste materials. This includes the use of lifting machinery and picking materials from a moving conveyor.
 Site Maintenance:
Maintain the cleanliness and serviceability of the premises and equipment. This includes undertaking minor repairs and ensuring the security of the site, including keyholder responsibilities.
 Administrative Duties:
Record site user data and other required information for the Local Authority in accordance with the waste management license.
 Stock Control: Manage stock levels of goods and order relevant supplies as necessary.
 
Qualifications and Training: 

Academic achievement to Scottish National Level 4 or 5, Standard Grades, or equivalent transferable experience and skills.
Manual Handling training or a willingness to undertake such training.
Health & Safety qualification.
Customer care qualification.
Proven experience of working unsupervised.
Experience in providing customer care in a work environment.
Previous experience in refuse or recycling collection. 
Knowledge and Skills:

Effective communication skills.
Ability to use your own initiative and follow instructions.
Strong customer care skills with the ability to handle difficult situations.
Physical capacity to cope with demanding work, including lifting in accordance with Manual Handling Guidelines.
Knowledge of recycling and waste disposal processes.
Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and guidelines.
This role is predominantly outdoors and requires a high level of physical effort.
As an HWRC Operative, you will play a vital role in the proper management of waste and recycling processes, contributing to environmental sustainability and public health.
