Overview of a School Crossing Patrol Officer:

Pertemps have an exciting opportunity within London Borough of Harrow for a self-driven and motivated School Crossing Patrol Officer to join an expanding team. The role of a School Crossing Patrol Officer has a competitive pay rate of £ 13.46 per hour, increasing in line with London Borough of Harrow Pay Scale increments. Other benefits include, accruing up to 28 days holiday per year (including Bank Holidays) and the opportunity to apply for any internal permanent roles within London Borough of Harrow.

The Main Purpose:

Help children and adults cross the road safely at designated points, using a school crossing patrol sign (lollipop) to signal drivers to stop
Use and report any faults in the hazard lights at or near crossings
Report any vehicles that disobey the patrol to the supervisor or police and complete paperwork on any accidents or incidents
Maintain control over children waiting to cross the road, ensuring they follow instructions
Follow all relevant health and safety procedures and use provided uniform and equipment for safety
Attend in-service training days and occupational health assessments as required
This role requires good communication skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. It also involves working outdoors in all weather conditions

Requirements:

There are no specific educational qualifications needed, but good communication skills and experience working with children and adults are beneficial
The role requires standing outside for long periods in all weather conditions, so physical stamina is important
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required to ensure the safety of children
On-the-job training is provided, including how to use their crossing patrol sign and manage traffic
Patience, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and excellent timekeeping are essential
