About this client/child: Ethan, aged 9, is an energetic and active child with a love for the outdoors, swimming and trampoline parks. He has two younger siblings, Grace (6) who is a real chatterbox, and Archie (10 months) who is also a very sociable and happy boy. Ethan has ASC, verbal dyspraxia and is developmentally delayed. He can experience some sensitivities to noise such as the sound of crying, construction work outside, or loud engines. Ethan attends a specialist school and has been receiving ABA therapy for the last 4 years. The family have seen lots of improvement in Ethan’s day-to-day behaviour and general development, but he can easily slip into bad habits so needs constant direction, positive reinforcement and reminders. Whilst Ethan is generally placid, he can pinch if he feels over stimulated or stressed. He receives speech therapy twice a week at school and has made great progress with his speech and language, especially with his reading. Ethan was on the path to being fully potty training, but this has recently regressed, whilst he wears pants for school, he is back in pads for home.
Overview of role: We are looking for a professional*female SEN Nanny who can provide all round support for Ethan, whilst coordinating with his school and therapy team. An important theme is continuing to promote Ethan’s independence and work collectively to support his development. Ethan responds well to structure and routine. There will always be learning opportunities, whether that’s modelling positive behaviour or reinforcing life skills and independence. There will be occasions when his mum will require assistance with her younger children, so being adaptable and flexible in your approach is key. There will be some light nursery duties included in the role, mainly tidying up after the children and preparing their dinner. Some weekend support is key but a day off in the week is given, this will ideally be Wednesday but there could be some flexibility with this. If you have other commitments, there will also be the opportunity to swap a Saturday for a Sunday occasionally. The rate offered is £21.00 weekdays and £23.00 Gross per hour weekends.
Who this job would suit: This role will suit an SEN Nanny with solid autism experience and someone who is confident liaising with a multidisciplinary team. Ethan responds well to kindness, but a firm but fair approach is essential as he can push boundaries, especially whilst getting to know someone new. He loves a happy smiley face! Part of your role will be working alongside teachers and therapists so you will be able to liaise confidently with other professionals.
What’s great about this job: This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a role where there is a lot of variety whilst also supporting Ethan with his continued development, especially having the opportunity to work alongside his support team. You will be able to observe speech therapy programmes and ABA sessions. The family travel quite regularly during the school holidays (mainly Dubai, Pakistan or parts of Europe) and as their SEN Nanny you will have opportunity to accompany them, all expenses paid.

* When a specific gender is essential, it is considered a genuine occupational requirement under paragraph 1, schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010, for a female or male worker to work with our client
