Job Opportunity: Commercial Lead
Location: Chadderton (Office-Based) Company: Leading MEP Contractor (Data Centre New Builds) Reporting To: Finance Director & Board.
Our client, a highly respected MEP contractor specialising in data centre new builds, is looking for an experienced Commercial Lead to join their Oldham office. This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a pivotal role within a company that not only delivers MEP services but also frequently acts as Principal Contractor, managing projects from inception to completion.
The Role
The Commercial Lead will be responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of the business, ensuring financial stability, revenue recognition, and effective risk management. With a relatively junior commercial team, this role requires someone with strong leadership and mentoring skills, guiding the team through structured task setting, review meetings, and providing the commercial insight they need to grow. The role also involves recruiting where necessary to strengthen the team. Additionally, the role will include managing JCT and NEC type contracts, ensuring compliance and effective contract administration.
Key Responsibilities
• Leadership & Mentorship: Inspire, develop, and guide the commercial team, ensuring best practices are followed.
• Revenue Recognition & P&L Management: Work closely with the Finance Director and board, evaluating financial performance and driving profitability.
• Subcontractor Packages: Oversee procurement and financial aspects of subcontractor agreements, ensuring cost efficiency and contractual compliance.
• Client Engagement & Business Development: Strengthen client relationships, identify upselling opportunities, and seek ways to enhance project packages.
• Commercial & Financial Strategy: Lead strategic initiatives, balancing commercial priorities with operational delivery.
• Contract Management: Oversee JCT and NEC contracts, ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and effective contract administration.
• Collaborative Approach: Operate in a non-adversarial manner, being a trusted figure within the business that colleagues and clients can confidently turn to.

Who We’re Looking For
• Proven experience in a senior commercial role within the MEP or construction sector, though other engineering sector experience will be considered.
• Strong understanding of finance, procurement, and subcontractor package management.
• Ability to mentor and develop a commercial team, providing structured guidance.
• Commercially astute, capable of evaluating P&L and making strategic recommendations.
• Confident communicator who can build relationships with clients and seek additional opportunities for business growth.
• Comfortable operating in a principal contractor environment, balancing responsibilities across multiple stakeholders.
• Experience in managing JCT and NEC contracts, ensuring compliance and efficient contract management.
