Key Responsibilities
As the Food Technology Teacher, you will play a vital role in teaching and inspiring students to develop essential culinary skills, understand nutrition, and explore food science. Your duties will include:
Lesson Planning and Delivery: Design and deliver engaging, hands-on lessons in food preparation, nutrition, and food science, aligned with the national curriculum. Encourage students to develop both practical and theoretical skills in the kitchen.
Marking and Assessment: Assess and evaluate student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback that supports growth and achievement.
Curriculum Development: Collaborate on the development of the Food Technology curriculum, incorporating diverse recipes, cultural influences, and essential skills to make learning relevant and interesting.
Classroom and Kitchen Management: Maintain a well-organized and safe classroom and kitchen environment, ensuring that all health, safety, and hygiene standards are met.
Parental Engagement: Participate in parent-teacher evenings to communicate student progress, learning goals, and areas for development.
Health and Safety Compliance: Enforce best practices for food hygiene and kitchen safety in line with school and regulatory standards, guiding students in responsible kitchen practices.
Professional Development: Actively engage in professional learning opportunities and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and enhance Food Technology teaching.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
Experience: Previous experience teaching Design and Technology at the secondary level is preferred.
Skills: Strong classroom management skills, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for fostering a creative, hands-on learning environment.
