Trainee Accounts Assistant (St Albans)

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Accounts Assistant to join our team in St Albans. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual eager to launch a career in finance while pursuing an accounting qualification. You will be working closely with our Financial Controller and European Finance Director, as well as collaborating with our Central Services Finance team and departmental managers.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Trainee Accounts Assistant, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Ledger Maintenance: Manage the primary ledgers for multiple entities, including those with multi-currency transactions.

Supplier Purchases

Nominal Ledger

Fixed Asset Management: Maintain and audit the fixed asset register periodically.

Accounts Preparation: Assist in preparing accounts up to the trial balance level.

Reconcile balance sheet accounts

Perform bank reconciliations for multiple entities

Cash Management: Handle cashbook postings and manage payment runs.

Statutory Compliance: Assist with the preparation and submission of statutory returns and payments, including:

VAT

PAYE / NI

Payroll Coordination: Liaise with external payroll bureau to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

Confidential Invoice Discounting: Manage monthly account reconciliations, periodic audits, and control of trust accounts and cash draw-downs.

Management Accounts Support: Prepare additional schedules as required.

Audit Assistance: Support the annual audit process.

General Administration: Provide general administrative support and assist the wider Management Accounting team with various tasks as needed.

Reporting Structure:

You will report directly to the Financial Controller, with a functional responsibility to the European Finance Director. This role requires continuous communication with the Central Services Finance team and various departmental managers.

Time Management: Effective time management skills.

Technical Proficiency: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Experience and Expectations:

Experience: 0 - 1 year of experience in a finance environment.

Career Development: Eager to develop your skills and work towards an accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA), with study support provided.

Work Environment: This is a hybrid role, requiring three days in the office.
