Supporting Students with Autism & Communication Needs
A welcoming and inclusive Special Needs School in Reading is seeking a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team. As an LSA, you'll be key in supporting students with various additional needs, including autism and speech, language, and communication challenges (SLCN), as well as related behavioural needs. This role offers an ideal path for an aspiring Speech and Language Therapist to gain hands-on experience helping children overcome communication barriers.
In this position, you'll collaborate closely with a small class of eight students, working alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to help each child reach their potential. Your role will focus on enhancing students' independence, social and communication skills, and creative and physical development. Additionally, you'll be involved in guiding students' emotional well-being, supporting them in navigating their feelings. You will also learn and apply specialized communication techniques, such as Makaton, PECS, and TEACCH, to empower students in expressing themselves.
This LSA role is an excellent opportunity for graduates looking to build a foundation in Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Educational Psychology. You'll gain valuable insight into multi-therapy teamwork and strategies for encouraging language development.
