Senior IT Network Engineer (SDWAN & MPLS Experience)
Salary: £54,600 per annum
Location: London, Rail Sector
We are partnering with a leading organisation in the rail sector, seeking an experienced and proactive Senior IT Network Engineer to join their IT Network team. This is a permanent role for a highly skilled professional with significant experience in both SDWAN and MPLS technologies. The business is undergoing a major transformation programme, making this an exciting time to join.
About the Role
As a Senior IT Network Engineer, you will be responsible for both Business-as-Usual (BAU) operations and contributing to a range of project activities. The business is in the process of transitioning from an MPLS network to a state-of-the-art SDWAN solution using Fortinet technology. The MPLS network will remain operational for approximately the next 2 years, during which time you will play a key role in both maintaining the existing infrastructure and supporting the migration to SDWAN.
This senior role will require leadership within the IT Network team, ensuring network reliability, security, and performance while providing strategic input on the ongoing transition.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the management and maintenance of the MPLS network.
Lead the SDWAN (Fortinet) migration process, ensuring a smooth transition.
Provide leadership for BAU network tasks and manage high-priority incidents.
Design, implement, and troubleshoot network solutions as part of the transformation project.
Ensure network performance, security, and availability across both MPLS and SDWAN environments.
Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure integration and alignment across systems.
Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance where necessary.
What We’re Looking For:
Extensive experience with MPLS and SDWAN technologies ideally Fortinet however all technologies will be considered.
Strong understanding of networking infrastructure, protocols, and security practices.
Proven track record in both BAU network management and project-based work.
Leadership experience within a network engineering team, with the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Rail sector experience is an advantage, but candidates from all industries are welcome to apply.
